A map for Saturday

.. is a documentary about an American living in NYC who quit his job to go on a one year solo journey around the world. Along the way, he made friends, fell in love, got in trouble, discovered all that are different and the same about people, and of course had the time of his life. The narrative is a great reflection of life on the road. Those who have traveled solo will appreciate this, no matter how long the duration or where your trip takes you. I suppose what hit home for me is that the narrator did this trip after multiple years of working. There is an uncanny reflection of America's working world's perspective of world travel. I imagine your experience would be different had you done it straight out of school.

By that point many people are used to the comfort of their paycheck, the certainty of their daily routines, and maybe even family obligations. You pretty much know what the rest of your life looks like in that path. Taking a leap out to the unknown becomes much harder than say, if you did it right out of college.
